Historical Blakeley State Park, Part 2!
Blog #17: October 21, 2018:
Last night someone was having an excruciatingly loud party. We thought that it had to be one of the nearby campers, but no. It wasn't even inside the park, and the park is 1,400 acres! (In my last blog the park officials were firing Civil War cannons, and it wasn’t that loud!)
Today we walked a long way out of the park, and into a residential area, looking for the "party house" out of curiosity. A man was working in his yard, so we asked him, and he laughed. "Yeah, they like their parties loud, and they have them about once a month. They live a few blocks away. It gets really loud here!" He is a photographer, and his name is Tarus Godbolt. He takes stunning portraits and wedding photos, as I found out when I visited his website. If you're in the area and need a photographer, give him a call!
You can rent this cute "Squirrel Nest" cabin in Historical Blakeley State Park if you don't have a camper. Nearby is this unique tree too:
We went to the Bluegill Restaurant in Spanish Fort for lunch: yummy! And they have a big fish out front as a bonus 😁 (Although why it is a rainbow trout instead of a bluegill, I have no idea).
October 24, 2018:
After three days of 2.5+ hour walks on the park trails, and filling out boat +/or insurance paperwork, we went to town. John's sister Chrisie and hubby Bryce used to live in the East Bay Apartments in Fairhope, and they told us of a nearby boardwalk where they used to see lots of alligators. We didn't see any gators, but it was a nice walk.
I'm showing off the "Cypress knees" :)
We got back to the trailer, and still had MORE paperwork to fill out. John grumbled that it must be easier for a convicted pedophile to adopt children than it is for us to buy our first large boat!
October 27, 2018:
I'm going to be a grandma! And John's going to be a grandpa! Katria and Jim face-timed us, and showed us the ultrasound picture. She's 12 weeks, and due May 9th. Congratulations Jim and Katria!!
John bought a drone on Sunday, and he finally got it working today! There are too many tall pine trees around the trailer for us to feel confident flying it yet.
We went shopping for a potluck tomorrow, and out to Bangkok Thai Cuisine in Daphne for incredible curry, coconut ice cream and sticky rice!
October 30, 2018:
We went on a three hour walk (yes, we're getting in shape!), and we spotted a "pregnant Ka-tree-a". We sent this picture to our daughter Katria, and she laughed.
I also have a new Least Favorite Plant. These vines grow across a path and grab your leg, which isn't the problem. The problem is that they are covered in thorns!
We found the very popular Toilet Tree as well :)
A well-camouflaged lizard!
Big dead cicada, underside

A big semi delivered our two solar panels and the pole for our wind generator to the park office. John is putting together what he can.
I bought a cheap backpack and some hook rug mesh, and I'm going to make a cat carrier for Penelope. These are some very rough instructions:
This backpack does have two sections, so I cut a small hole in the upper part of the middle divider, leaving at least 1/2" edge for hand sewing the mesh to it.
Now I can take Penelope with us, and she can look out the mesh while she’s in the pack.
AND CREDO IS OFFICIALLY OURS! WE JUST GOT THE CALL! YAY!!
October 31, 2018:
We had a medical procedure to take care of today, or else we would have worked on the boat. We ate at Desmond's Taste of Jamaica Restaurant in Foley: jerk snapper, conch fritters, soup and cheesy rice! Yum!

Later, we walked in the park and happened upon a Halloween Wedding! How fun! The bride was in a gorgeous black dress, the groom was a knight, and both were on horseback. And the guests were in costume! Congratulations!!
The black horse was even in dragon costume!
Parts for our Seawater Pro water maker arrived, and it wasn't just Penelope that played in the box:
November 1, 2018:
There's a tornado warning, so we won't be working on the boat today either. We got our food, toiletries and medicine cabinet items ready to move. We plan to move the boat from Chuck's place to the Palafox Marina in Pensacola, Florida tomorrow!
November 2, 2018:
I couldn't sleep at all last night because of a bladder infection. This morning we went to Urgent Care for an exam and prescription. Ugh! Why today of all days?
We got to Chuck and Donna's, and Credo was waiting for us. We thanked them for taking such good care of her, especially during Hurricane Michael. We climbed aboard, got ready, started Credo's motor, and cast off. She is really ours!
A boat owner’s smile!
